At Marmomac (September 27 – 30, 2017) some firms used Head Mounted Displays to take the quarry close to the customer, instead of vice versa and to show scenes which normally cannot be shown.

Stone base B.V. is a Dutch natural stone company based in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, to the east of Rotterdam. It is one of Europe’s largest suppliers of natural materials for gardens and public projects, delivering many thousands of square metres of stone products every year to private, business and public enterprises. Stone base is McKeon’s Dutch distributor, supplying limestone to large contractors such as the Amsterdam City Council.

McKeon Stone Sculpture at Creagh College

Seeds of Wonder

Alan Counihan’s work was created at the McKeon limestone quarry at Three Castles and their fabrication workshop at Brockley Park, Stradbally, County Laois. Assisted by fellow sculptor Ruairi Carroll, Alan created two large limestone seed heads, from which emerge multi-coloured glass shapes representing seeds. The glass was the work of Jerpoint Glass of Glenmore, County Kilkenny. The work reflects the natural world and the process of germination and growth. It also refers to the college’s role in education and discovery, as the surface of each of the two sculptures is inscribed with patterns referring to learning; numeracy on one, literacy on the other.

A Beautiful Limestone Fountain in a Famous Garden

McKeon limestone provides natural beauty in a new fountain at Ashford Castle in Cong, County Mayo.

Ashford Castle

Ashford Castle is famous for its extensive gardens, which were first laid out by the Guinness family in the nineteenth century, and have since been developed to become amongst the finest in Ireland. In 1996, an ornamental pond was built in the Tollman Garden, which is overlooked by the castle’s terrace. It was decided more recently that a fountain would be added, with a pattern of six walkways by which the pond could be approached.
